AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal Monday invoked Dr B R Ambedkar and scholar Rohit Vemula to woo the Dalit community here.

Kejriwal claimed that Vemula’s suicide in his university campus in Hyderabad earlier this year and the attacks against the community in Punjab showed the “anti-Dalit mentality” of the SAD and BJP.

“Such miseries can be ended only through better education.” He was speaking at a programme organised by the party for the scheduled caste (SC) community here.

He claimed that the other parties were not improving government schools, which the bulk of Dalit children attend. “For the best education in government schools you must vote for the AAP. Our government in Delhi has improved schools there and is now one of the best in the country.”

He accused the BJP of trying to end reservation for Dalits. “Today, the SAD-BJP combine has been committing atrocities on Dalits everywhere in Punjab. An AAP government in the state will constitute an SIT to investigate attacks on Dalits,” he said
