Bandipora was the site of an earlier encounter on Tuesday in which two terrorists were killed. Several notes of Rs 2000, that were introduced by the Reserve Bank less than two weeks ago in the event of the government’s demonetisation move, were recovered from the terrorists. One of the reasons cited behind the government’s move to withdraw the high value currency notes was the use of counterfeit notes in funding terrorist activities in the country.
Another encounter between militants and security forces was reported in Sopore area of Baramulla district.
Further details of the operation are awaited.
