Karnataka: 8 kids killed, as private bus collides with school van

Eight children were killed and 12 others were injured when a mini van ferrying school children collided with a private bus on NH-66 in Karnataka’s Udupi district Tuesday morning. The driver of the mini van and his wife, a schoolteacher, are among the injured.

In the van were 19 children of the Don Bosco school at Gangolli, the driver and his wife. Among the 19 students, seven were in primary-level classes, while one was in middle school. According to Udupi district officials, around 8 am on Tuesday, the bus plying on Byndoor-Kundapur route crashed into the Maruti Omni van at Mohadi Cross, metres away from Don Bosco School. Three students were killed at the spot and five more succumbed in the hospital, police said. Six of the eight dead students are girls.
