Eight persons, seven of whom were from the State Bank of India (SBI), including a branch manager, were killed as the van they were travelling in collided head-on with a container-laden truck in Kanpur late Wednesday night. The SBI staff stayed in the bank till 11:30 pm to ensure availability of new currency notes on Thursday morning.
According to police, the drivers of both the vehicles lost control and collided head-on in the Bindgawan area. Both of them landed in a ditch after collision beside the highway with the truck on top of the van, killing all the passengers on the spot.

Those killed included SBI branch manager Rupendra Singh, Assistant Manager Naveen Srivastava, clerical staff Ashok Tiwari, Uttam, Rahul, Sohanlal, Ajay Tiwari and vehicle’s driver Bharat. All the staff members were posted at SBI Ghatampur branch.
“There was a collision between the van and a truck and both vehicles fell into a ditch. The van was carrying eight people and all were crushed to death,” said Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural), Rajesh Kumar.
