JNU: PhD student found dead in hostel room

Students complained to the warden about a foul smell coming from J R Philemon Chiru's room, after which his body was discovered.

A Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student, identified by police as J R Philemon Chiru, was found dead inside room No. 171 of Brahmaputra Hostel late Tuesday night. Police said Chiru, who was pursuing his PhD in West Asian Studies, had not been seen for the last three days.

Students complained to the warden about a foul smell coming from his room.

When some students checked from a gap in the door, they noticed Chiru lying face down. That’s when security guards were called in and they forcefully opened the door, police said.

The body has been taken to AIIMS for post-mortem examination, police said.

        IE has rushed its correspondent who is permanently stationed at JNU to find any remotest link of the incidence to ABVP!
