Though the road there had a steep slope, the bus driver stopped the already overloaded vehicle to pick up the stranded matador passengers as well. However, in the meantime, the driver lost grip over the brakes and bus started rolling backward and finally fell into the gorge.

The locals and police rushed to the accident site and launched rescue operations by bringing the victims out of the gorge.

Meanwhile, in another accident near Rajouri, three passengers were killed and 14 others injured when a tempo fell into a gorge near Jamola. The ill-fated vehicle was on way to Jamola from Pindi village, sources said, adding that the injured have been admitted to a district hospital at Rajouri.
