Four terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces near the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowgam sector in Handwara in Jammu and Kashmir Sunday morning.

The security forces have recovered four weapons from the terrorists and the search operation is currently underway.

Meanwhile, earlier in the morning, terrorists stormed into a private building at Jehangir Mahal adjoining Army’s brigade headquarter at Allah Peer in Poonch town, killing one police constable and injuring three others.  The attack took place at around 7:50 am in the morning, sources said.

The terrorists, two to three in number, were holed up inside the building, sources said, adding that their prime target appeared to be Army’s Brigade headquarters. The mini secretariat building close to Jahangir Mahal is under construction.

Last week, militants had ambushed an army convoy in North Kashmir’s Handwara injuring three soldiers. Locals had said that the attack took place when the convoy was on its way from Kupwara to Baramulla on the Baramulla – Handwara highway near Kralgund Udipora village.

On August 17, militants had launched a similar attack on an army convoy on the national highway at Khawjabagh Baramulla that left two soldiers and a policeman dead.
