Jharkhand athlete Vivek Kumar Baitha, hits pole on train ride, dies

Vivek Kumar Baitha, a resident of Morabadi in Ranchi, had gone to Assam along with a 60-member contingent of junior athletes to participate in the sprint event of the eastern zone inter-state competition, police said.

A 16-year-old state-level athlete, travelling in a train, died after his head hit a pole in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district on Wednesday.

Vivek Kumar Baitha, a resident of Morabadi in Ranchi, had gone to Assam along with a 60-member contingent of junior athletes to participate in the sprint event of the eastern zone inter-state competition, police said. He was travelling to Ranchi, along with his squad, on the Kamakhya Express Wednesday. According to police, Vivek was standing near the door of the S-1 coach and was leaning outside when his head hit the tenth pole on stretch No. 235. A complaint has been lodged and probe is on.
