Days after he was booked for alleged criminal conspiracy and arson, Pawan Ruia, chairman of Ruia Group and described as the “proprietor” of Jessop & Co Ltd, has been summoned by the state CID for questioning, while eight more persons have been arrested for allegedly being involved in the incident.

This comes even as Ruia filed a petition before the Calcutta High Court seeking quashing of the FIR lodged against him in connection with the fire at the Jessop factory. “We have summoned Pawan Ruia in connection with the case. A notice has been served asking him to appear within this week,” said DIG (CID) Bharat Lal Meena.
The FIR, lodged on October 18, suggested that there was a “criminal and calculated omission with some ulterior motive on the part of Ruia and the managers of the factory.” ENS
