Jaya’s flood report: Aid for 14 lakh families

With Assembly polls just months away, the AIADMK has engaged its party workers to ensure zero complaints over relief distribution.

Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa on Monday said her government had provided compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to families of 245 flood victims.

In a statement, she said that floods in Chennai and coastal districts had killed 470 people. She said that cash assistance for 14 lakh families was deposited in their bank accounts Monday and the direct money transfers for the other victims was expected by January 11. Nearly 68,350 farmers had been compensated with Rs 29.48 crore.

Days after Jayalalithaa faced criticism for the extravagant AIADMK meet on December 31, a senior government official said the entire state machinery was engaged in completing flood relief work on a war footing.

With Assembly polls just months away, the AIADMK has engaged its party workers to ensure zero complaints over relief distribution.
