The Chennai City Police Monday arrested two persons, including a software engineer, for allegedly spreading rumours about the health condition of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who has been hospitalised since September 22. According to an investigator involved in the case, those arrested are Satish Kumar (26), an MCA graduate working with a private firm, and Madasamy (25), who also works with a private firm near Velachery in Chennai city.

The official, who is part of the Central Crime Branch, said the arrests were made after a complaint was filed by AIADMK IT wing secretary G Ramachandran and Raja Kamal, a resident of Nungambakkam.
Kumar was arrested after police traced his Facebook account as being the origin of “false information” on Jayalalithaa’s health.
Madasamy, an AC mechanic who hails from Madurai, was picked up after the probe revealed that he allegedly used a web portal (tamilentertainment.co.in) to upload an audio clip purportedly recorded by a staff member of the Apollo hospital on Jayalalithaa’s condition. The audio file was later shared by thousands of people.
“Both of them have admitted that they were behind spreading false information. They have been remanded in judicial custody,” said an official release.
