Two policemen were killed and another was injured when militants attacked police personnel in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday. Two unidentified militants and a soldier was killed in a separate operation in north Kashmir’s Bandipore district.
According to information, two or three militants attacked a group of Indian Reserve Police personnel deployed near the Deputy Commissioner’s Office and Police Lines and opened fire on the police personnel, killing two of them. The police retaliated, but the militants managed to escape, according to information.
An operation has been launched to track down the militants. Sources said the attack could be the handiwork of militant modules operating in the district.
The duo were identified as head constable Tanveer Ahmad and constable Jalaluddin; another policeman was injured in the attack. Police recovered a car from the neighbourhood, and an officer said it could have been used by the militants. In Naidkhai village of Bandipore, two militants were killed in another operation.
