A day after 29-year-old Jalandhar man was killed, allegedly by liquor mafia, police Friday arrested three main accused in the case. Inspector Jeewan Singh, station house officer from division 5 police station, said they arrested Ujagar Singh, wife Nirmal Kaur Nimmo and son Gaurav and from outside a Gurdwara in Goindwal Sahib in Tarn Taran.
In all, six persons are accused in the case of which five have been identified, the inspector said. “Efforts are on to nab the remaining accused,” he said.
Munish Kumar, the victim, was allegedly attacked outside his house on Wednesday at around 11.30 pm. He had, reportedly, objected to the sale of illegal liquor in the area. The attack came just days after a Mansa man was killed allegedly for the same reason. He was cremated on Friday.
On Friday, leaders of almost all political parties, including Congress, SAD, BJP, BSP and Apana Punjab Party, visited the family and expressed their condolences. Jalandhar Police Commissioner, Arpit Shukla also met family.
The Opposition said law and order had totally collapsed in Punjab, a “fact” that state home minister Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal “was not ready to accept.”
Munish’s father, Raj Kumar, said his son had never submitted a written complaint to the police but had himself warned the “mafia”.
