The information given by Jaishankar to the Parliamentary Committee on External Affairs appears to contradict Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar's claim.

Congress on Wednesday latched on to Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar’s remarks that the Army had carried out “target specific, limited-calibre, counter-terrorist operations” across LoC in the past too, to “expose” the BJP and Modi government’s “lie” on the recent surgical strikes. The party’s chief spokesman Randeep Surjewala hoped that Jaishanker would not get “axed” like his predecessor Sujatha Singh for “speaking the truth” and “expose BJP’s deception”.

“Modi Govt’s rhetoric, bravado and machismo’s exposed by FS, Jaishankar. Amit Shah’s and Parrikar’s lies lie exposed. (sic).

“Hope FS Jaishankar won’t get axed like Sujatha Singh for speaking the truth qua valour of Armed Forces and exposing BJP’s deception,” Surjewala tweeted.

His tweets came a day after a Parliamentary panel was told that the Army had carried out “target specific, limited-calibre, counter-terrorist operations” across the LoC in the past too, but this is for the first time the government has gone public about it.

The information given by Jaishankar to the Parliamentary Committee on External Affairs appears to contradict Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s claim. Sources said Jaishankar made the remarks when specifically asked by MPs whether surgical strikes have been carried out in the past.

“Professionally done, target-specific, limited-calibre counter-terrorist operations have been carried out across the LoC in the past too, but this is for the first time that the government has made it public,” Jaishankar had been quoted as saying by unnamed sources present in the meeting.

The top diplomat’s comments assume significance in the context of remarks by Parrikar last week rejecting Congress’ claims that surgical strikes were undertaken during the UPA government too.

Parrikar had asserted that it was the first time that surgical strikes had taken place in the aftermath of the Uri terror attack and what was undertaken previously were operations locally executed by commanders without involving the government.

First time it's been turning out that DM and PM are either not updated about strikes undertaken in past or if they are just ignoring it, all these will certainly published in book by these very bureaucrats after 2019.

By making surgical strikes public, India surely put stan on defensive. Congress must stop further politics on it. Except PM, other BJP leaders should also refrain from making comments on Surgical strikes.

India kept losing parts of JandK to China and Pak in the various wars during Congress party rule under Nehru and Indira(Aksai chin and POK). What chest thumping can the Congress party do ? Still they pla on the war emotions to win the following elections. So lets first talk about the betrayal of the nation by the Congress party.

This just proves to show to how extend Congress party can go to become anti-national when they are out of power. Really a dangerous party both when in power as well as well out of power. Time to terminate it to ashes for ever so that this great nation can march towards progress and achieve poverty eradication at the earliest.

So what kept Congress from making such details public, if such strikes have happened in the past. At the very least, it would have prevented India being viewed as a soft-power by the international community, as it is being now. Congress fails to realize that since Independence, it has pla all its cards against stan and China wrong. Congress' pive international diplomatic options has meant that countries like China and even pests like stan have had more diplomatic clout than India in the past. lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;Nor has BJP done itself any favors by playing up the surgical strikes too much. Let us face it, the abundance of stan war hysteria in media these days is sickening. Every news channel portrays little news as a huge victory for India(latest was BRICS statement on terrorism), however, when you think and analyze, in reality it is no more than an eyewash - since no BRICS country other than India faces terrorism in its own territory, nor such statements signify any actions. Looks like the government is merely trying to divert attention from its slow progress on several fronts, specially economical.

Point is Modi is using it for his political gain - that way Congress leaders were better or fool not to drag military for their political gain. Modi remains a cheap leader.
