Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Saturday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s motive over chanting “Jai Shri Ram” at a Ramleela in Lucknow earlier this month. Reminding that he earlier used to chant “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, Akhilesh said PM must clarify on what path he wants the country to tread.

“Socho dussehre ke din kya naara de kar chale gaye desh ke Pradhan Mantri. Pehle to Bharat Mata ki jai kehte they…batao Bharat Mata ko bhool kar kis raste par le jana chahte ho aap? (Do you remember the slogan raised by the Prime Minister during the Dussehra function. Earlier, he used to chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’…but now you have forgotten Bharat Mata…which path do you want the country to tread?),” Akhilesh said.
He was addressing a function before dedicating to public various power projects and inaugurating the new State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) in Lucknow. His remark comes a day after senior cabinet minister Azam Khan criticised Modi for chanting “Jai Shri Ram” saying that the PM belonged to the nation and “should have also raised the slogans of Allah-u-Akbar, Waheguru ji ka Khalsa too.”
Calling the BJP members as “hoshiyar, chamatkari and chalu”, Akhilesh said that PM has been speaking about the surgical strike.
“I have studied in a military school and my classmates are serving at the borders…I asked them and they told me that surgical strikes were conducted in the past too..Army often conducts such operations…but (see) how BJP people are misleading the country,” Akhilesh added.
Hitting back at the BJP over its repeated jibe that the ruling Samajwadi Party has five chief ministers, Akhilesh asked the party to find at least one acceptable leader who could be projected as its CM face in the upcoming Assembly elections.
“These BJP people had been saying all along that there are five chief ministers in the Samajwadi Party government. I want to tell them to at least find out one (leader for the post) and bring him in front of the people,” he said and asked BJP what its government at the Centre has done for Uttar Pradesh in the past two-and-a-half years.
Akhilesh also attacked the previous BSP government led by Mayawati accusing it of wasting public money during its tenure. “The BSP government installed stone elephants…in the past nine years they have remained static…all the funds were wasted and they claim they will form the government,” he said.
He said his government’s works have taken the state on the path of development and prosperity and claimed “work speaks for itself”. He also promised 24-hour power supply in villages too if SP comes back to power.
