Describing ‘triple talaq’ as anti-constitutional and anti-civilisation, Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday said its time the country should abolish this “gender discrimination”, in the light of principles of justice, dignity and equality.

“Triple talaq is anti-constitutional, against law, against the principles of democracy and anti-civilisation. This kind of opinion is on the rise. There is a discussion going on, on this subject. Already so much of time has been taken. It is time the country should move forward to abolish ‘triple talaq’ to end the discrimination and also have gender justice and equality before law. We should end this,” Naidu told reporters.

“Even Muslim women are demanding justice. There should not be any gender discrimination. There should be gender justice. All are equal before the Constitution,” he said speaking here on the sidelines of a programme organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

He suggested that as the Supreme Court is currently scrutinising the issue, anybody can go and voice their concerns.

On the Uniform Civil Code, he said, “the government will do everything in a transparent manner. It will take Parliament into confidence. Some sections are resorting to a false propaganda that the government is trying to implement Common Civil Code from backdoor.”

On October 7, the Centre for the first time, had opposed in Supreme Court the practise of triple talaq, ‘nikah halala’ and polygamy among Muslims and favoured a re-look on the grounds like gender equality and secularism.

The Ministry of Law and Justice, in its affidavit, referred to constitutional principles such as gender equality, secularism, international covenants, religious practices and marital law prevalent in various Islamic countries to drive home the point that the practice of triple talaq and polygamy needed to be adjudicated upon afresh by the apex court.

The law panel’s move was significant as the Supreme Court had recently said it would prefer a wider debate, in public as well as in court, before taking a decision on the constitutional validity of ‘triple talaq’, which many complain is abused by Muslim men to arbitrarily divorce their wives.

For god's sake, there is nothing called Triple Talak in Islam like a Triple Century in cricket. Islam is against divorce as it is mentioned in a Hadeeth that what is hated by Allah the most among what is permitted is divorce. The reference to triple talaq is only made from the context of re-taking a lady to whom a person is divorced as the Islam permits a person who divorced his wife once and twice to take the wife so long he has pronounced the divorce thrice. It is a permissive decree in the interest of welfare of the family. The religion of Islam is not against civilization and every restriction in Islam is designed for promoting mutually respecting living and for curbing exploitation. A women dressed as per Islamic prescription is more likely not to be exploited than otherwise, and this is for every one to understand including those who say the oppressed under Islam. In both the case of Hindu women from the villages who covers the entire body except the face and in the case of Christian sisters who does like wise, the man will only extends more respect than looks with the eye of oppression.

did you read Ramayana? did you read comment of former law minister Ram Jethmalani regarding separation of Ram and Sita. Do you know how many wifes Krishna had? There is no Hindu Civilisation before Muslims came to INdia (it may be vedic civilisation). THe Term Hindu was given by Muslims. Check ur facts, then debate.

some people want to abolish triple talaq (divorce by 3 pronunciation) and others want to abolish even the single talaq. Hope the Justice will prevail in sha Allah. lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;Divorce is a dignified way of separation of a married couple. IN the traditional laws practiced by several Hindus, there was no concept of divorce at all; if a man marries a woman, the bond is irreversible. The concept of divorce is foreign. lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;Without divorce, the marriage becomes a trap. think a situation where a man refuses to live with his wife, if there is no talaq (or divorce) this wife will be helpless without a remedy. she does not get her marital rights from the present husband and she can not marry to another man, if there is no concept of divorce.
