The Indian Navy recruitment drive in Mumbai Friday met with an overwhelming response which soon led to a stampede.

Around 50,000 aspirants showed up for the recruitment drive at INS Hamla 4 SSR, four of whom have been injured in the chaos.

“There was a recruitment rally at INS Hamla, Malad, this morning for senior secondary recruits. We were expecting a good response from volunteers,” an official told PTI, adding that, “The response was overwhelming and crowd control created a bit of confusion in the early hours today, which was subsequently handled very efficiently by the local police and Navy officials,” he said.

Navy said that the situation is under control now, and the drive is going on smoothly.
