“Ye desh gusse se kabhi nahin chal sakta hai, darr se nahi chalsakta hai. Pyaar se chalta hai…yahi fark hai hum mein aur unme (this country cannot be run by anger and fear. The country needs to run with love, that is the difference between us and them),” he said.
The Congress leader was talking to people in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh during a roadshow which was a part of his mahayatra.
He also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s was working to incite people and make them fight against each other. He said he only worked to unite everyone.
“Narendra Modi ka kaam janata ko ek doosre se ladaane ka kaam hai, mera kaam janata ko jodne ka hai (Narendra Modi’s work is to incite people against each other and make them fight, my work is to unite everyone),” he said.
In the month long mahayatra, Gandhi he is traversing 2500 km through Uttar Pradesh, campaigning for the 2017 assembly elections slated for early next year.
Talking about rising intolerance in the country, Gandhi said, “Humare khoon ke andar ye baat hai ki yeh desh sabka hai, kisi ek jaat, dharm, vyakti, sanagathan ka nahin hai (it has been ingrained in our blood that this country belongs to everyone, not to one caste, religion, person or organisation).”
Rahul Gandhi also said that his party will continue to fight against Modi’s and RSS agenda. “Narendra Modi aur RSS ke khilaaf Congress party ladti hai, Sonia Gandhi ladti hain, Rahul Gandhi ladta hai (Congress, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi has been fighting against Narendra Modi and RSS),” he said.
Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi began the mahayatra on Tuesday. The yatra, he said, is a campaign to secure the rights of the poor, farmers and labourers in government resources. He will cover as many as 233 assembly constituencies to reach out to people ahead of crucial polls slated early next year. He will also be holding ‘khaat sabhas’ in 21 districts and will do more road shows in numerous large towns and cities. The yatra started from village Panchlari Kritpura in Rudrapur.
The mahayatra comes after a successful road show of Sonia Gandhi earlier in August and the two yatras of state party leaders in various districts of the state.
