A farmer allegedly had to carry his eight-month pregnant daughter-in-law on his shoulders from the main gate to the emergency ward of Government Women District Hospital in Mirzapur Sunday as he could not get a stretcher. The woman later delivered a stillborn and died after she was referred to Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi Wednesday.

On Friday, Mirzapur District Magistrate Kanchan Verma ordered a probe after a video showing Kapoor Chand Pandey (55) carrying his daughter-in-law Anshu (24) on his shoulders went viral in the district.

“A two-member committee, led by the CMO, has been formed to probe the matter and submit a report by tomorrow,” Verma said.
