A woman was injured in the Shahpur sector as Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked small arms fire and mortar shelling along the Line of Control Sunday morning. The incident happened less than 12 hours after a grenade attack in Poonch that injured pilgrims on their way to the Buddha Amarnath shrine.

About Sunday’s attack, sources said that nearly half a dozen forward Indian positions were affected due to unprovoked Pakistani firing which came around 3 am. The injured woman was identified as Fatima Jan (45) of village Qasba.

Indian troops retaliated and the exchange of fire continued intermittently for six hours. A Defence Ministry spokesperson at Jammu, Lt Colonel Munish Mehta, said that there was no damage on the Indian side.

The latest ceasefire violation along the LoC in Poonch district came after nearly a year.
