Continuing to display her combative attitude towards the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), BJP MLA from Amritsar and Chief Parliamentary Secretary Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Wednesday said she had apprised Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “the kind of language Akali leaders use about him in Punjab”.
Speaking at the sidelines of the ongoing session of the Punjab assembly, Navjot Kaur said that contrary to the news reports that she had met Modi regarding a Rajya Sabha seat for her husband, former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, she had gone to discuss issues pertaining to the development of her constituency, which, she added, concerned one of the union ministries.

“I showed him the news cuttings of what was being said about him and in what manner in public by some Akali leaders,” she said adding that she spent nearly half-an-hour discussing Punjab issues with the PM. Asked if her meeting with the Prime Minister meant that she and her husband were no longer thinking of joining the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Navjot Kaur was quick to say that the respect for the PM was different from the love of Punjab. “Beyond this I will not say anything,” she said.
Expressing ignorance over reports that Navjot Sidhu could be offered a RS seat from Punjab, she said that neither she nor her husband were aware of the move. “Nobody has discussed this with us. We are happy go lucky people,” she added.
Navjot Kaur Sidhu has been lately training her guns at SAD and has accused the state government of not doing enough for her constituency and stalling several projects. She has also gone on record in the recent past stating that if the SAD-BJP alliance continues then she will not be contesting election from BJP in the 2017 assembly elections.
The belligerence of Navjot Kaur has drawn the ire of the SAD leadership ,who have complained to the BJP state and central leadership on several occasions. The latest complaint was made during the meeting of the Deputy CM, Sukhbir Singh Badal and the national BJP president, Amit Shah, where the former protested that despite being a CPS in the state government and drawing emolument from it she was publicly blaming the government.
Referring to the SAD criticism, Kaur mentioned that all her travelling expenses were being taken care of by her husband.
