Haryana BJP legislators will meet Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore on Wednesday morning to demand that he not approve any Bill pertaining to the Satluj-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal. The move comes after the Supreme Court ruled against Punjab on the issue.

However, the Punjab government and Opposition parties have repeatedly mentioned that they would not allow water from its river to be distributed to its neighbours.

A senior Haryana BJP leader said that the issue was discussed and that party legislators, under leadership of state party president Subhash Barala, will meet the Punjab Governor. “The Punjab government is threatening the federal structure of the country,” he said.

Earlier, Haryana Congress leaders had stated that if the need arose, all 90 MLAs of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha would resign.

Leader of Opposition in the Haryana Vidhan Sabha and Indian National Lok Dal leader Abhay Singh Chautala wrote to President Pranab Mukherjee seeking implementation of the Supreme Court judgment.
