The Shiv Sena, through its mouthpiece Saamana, once again hit out at the BJP for the way it has handled the Uttarakhand crisis, stating that the party should understand the importance of democracy.
“People have not given power to you to conspire and create turmoil. Those who have elevated you to the top will one day force you to eat dirt as well. The pride and ego of even Hitler fell through and he was forced to put a bullet in his head in a dark room. Understand the importance of democracy and act accordingly,” an editorial in party mouthpiece Saamana said.
It further added that the party should try to ensure that its behavior does not lead to it losing face in the future.

“The people have by bestowing power in your hand given you a double edged sword. Ensure that you do not chop your nose with this sword. That is what has happened in Uttarakhand,” the edit said.
In the editorial, it also hailed the judiciary for “saving” democracy in Uttarakhand and said handling of the situation in the hill state by the Centre had served as a “tonic” for Congress’s revival.
Those who tried to show their “might” by imposing the President’s Rule in the state have fallen flat on their face, it said.
“The BJP has been embarrassed completely. The circumstances in Uttarakhand were not conducive for the Congress but they have now turned beneficial now because of the grave mistakes committed by the BJP,” it said.
Critising the BJP’s way of functioning, the editorial went on to say: “This is not the way to make the country Congress-free. Rebellion and horse trading are diseases. Instead of treating this disease, if it is being spread, we are worried about the future of the country. We wonder if there will be a situation of lawlessness and emergency in the future.”
The Shiv Sena shares an uneasy alliance with the BJP which has been marked with political acrimony and bickering. The Shiv Sena, which has been forced to play second fiddle to the BJP in the state, shares an uneasy relationship with its dominant partner.
The party had played a dominant role in the three decade old alliance with the BJP but has now been forced to play second fiddle.
However, with the recent reverses and controversies that have plagued the BJP, the Shiv Sena has become increasingly vocal in taking swipes at its alliance partner.
