Harassed by seniors, student attempts suicide in Assam

The mother has filed a police complaint against the school authorities.

THE mother of a Class IX student of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Rangiya, Assam, has accused the school of inaction after her son attempted suicide by consuming phenyl, allegedly due to harassment by some senior students of the school hostel.

The mother has filed a police complaint against the school authorities. The boy is in hospital.

The mother said in her complaint that the principal had been informed about the alleged incidents of harassment.

Zuber Ahmed, Assistant Commissioner (Academic) at Navodaya Vidyalaya Sangathan’s office in Shillong, said, “We have instituted an inquiry into the incident and allegations of mismanagement. The principal has been issued showcause notice.”
