Gujarat CM to unveil Rs 332.86-crore projects at Kankaria Carnival

Nearly three million visitors were expected to enjoy the event during the week-long annual event ending December 31.

Chief Minister Anandiben Patel will announce public projects worth Rs 332.86 crore while launching the Kankaria Carnival here on December 25, said city Mayor Gautam Shah Saturday without elaborating any details. He said nearly three million visitors were expected to enjoy the event during the week-long annual event ending December 31.

Shah said the Carnival, which was started as annual event in 2008, would have two major events this time, that is, a cultural performance by municipal corporation-run school students titled Reti Na Ratan (Jewels of Sand) and a folk performance called Dhanya Dhara Gujaratni (Blessed Land of Gujarat) as well as Lok Jivan Na Moti (Pearls of Public Life) by veteran artistes of the state. Representatives of various states like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Manipur, Rajasthan, Orissa, Panjab, and Maharashtra would perform under the theme of ‘Vande India’, Shah added.

Other entertainment shows include an augmented reality show, a light and sound show on all the seven days, Attractions include impersonators, comedy shows, playback singing, horse show, performances by differently abled children and food courts with different state delicacies etc. Gautam said that in view of heavy rush of visitors, the multi-level automated parking would be allowed for free parking in all the seven days. He said that given the security concerns the whole venue would be placed under CCTV surveillance.
