Accusing the government of selectively “leaking classified documents” to “spread canards” in the AgustaWestland case, the Congress party on Friday claimed that many political leaders and bureaucrats had been put under illegal surveillance.

“There is a dirty tricks department in the BJP government which is working overtime, tapping phones of Opposition leaders, civil servants and even judges,” Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma told reporters here after Rajya Sabha was adjourned sine die.

Claiming that the whole effort of the government in the case was to defame the Congress, Sharma said, “Selective leaking and distribution of classified documents creates an incomplete picture. The whole picture (was) brought out by the Opposition in Parliament.”
