Government fixes 2-year term for CBI’s Director of Prosecution

The DoP will continue to function under the CBI Director, who also has a two-year fixed tenure.

In a first, the government Monday fixed the term of the CBI’s Director of Prosecution (DoP) at two years. The DoP is a crucial office that provides legal opinion on all the bureau’s cases.

The DoP will continue to function under the CBI Director, who also has a two-year fixed tenure.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued new rules and opened recruitment to the post for civil servants working in various ministeries.

The DoPT order cited Sub-Sections 8 and 9 of Section 24 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, which mandate
appointment of a person who has been in practise as an advocate for not less than 10 years as a Special Public Prosecutor.
