Prime Minister Narendra Modi started off celebrations in the country on the occasion of International Yoga Day. While he attended a mass demonstration session at the Capitol Complex in Chandigarh, he spoke on the importance of Yoga and how it could be a solution to critical diseases like diabetes. He also instituted two awards, at the national and international levels for the celebrations next year.

Central ministers, governors as well as state leaders across political parties joined in at various state capitals to make the event a success.

Not to be left behind in the celebrations, the three branches of the Armed Forces also trooped in to show their support.

Photos showed Indian Navy personnel performing Yoga on board INS Viraat, a Centaur-class aircraft carrier which was the oldest in service. Officers, naval personnel and their families also took part in the celebrations at INS Adyar in Chennai as well.

Coast guard personnel also pitched in with their demonstrations onboard Ship Sagar.

But its the Indian Army that showed grit and enthusiasm with their Yoga Day demonstration at Forward Areas and at Siachen, the world’s highest battlefield. For the uninitiated, Siachen is a glacier located in the Karakoram Range in the Himalayas and regularly witnesses extreme sub-zero temperatures.

While 500 members of the Border Security Force held a Yoga session at Najafgarh on the outskirts of Delhi, there were events at the ADGPI central command in Lucknow as well.

Indian Air Force officers and personnel celebrated the day at the Wellingdon camp in New Delhi today.

Modi Govt's Jun '15 order making Yoga compulsory for Security Forces needs to be reviewed. Forces should do military drills and training.lt;br/gt;Yoga and meditation is for Modis, Ramdevs, Ravi Shankars and Asarams. These Babas should be kept away from our armed forces.lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;Where we are heading to?
