From February 15, you can book e-tickets on IRCTC only 6 times a month

Come February 15, passengers can book train tickets online only six times a month instead of existing 10 on Indian Railways’ e-ticketing website.

Under the existing system of online booking, one can book tickets on Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) website 10 times a month but from February 15, it will be reduced to six times, a senior Railway Ministry official said.

This has been done to prevent any possible misuse of online booking facility as it has been felt that a genuine passenger does not require to book tickets online for more than six times in a month, he said.

According to an analysis of usage of quota of booking 10 tickets in a month, it indicated that 90 per cent of users were booking upto six tickets in a given month and only 10 per cent were booking more than six, he said, adding that it is suspected that the 10 per cent users might be involved in touting activities.

Therefore, to deter such touts and to facilitate genuine users, it has been decided that a maximum of six tickets can
be booked by an individual user in a month, said the official.

The IRCTC has already put in place various checks for the online booking on its website like only two tickets can be booked by an individual using his or her user-id in a day for advance reservation booking from 8 AM to 10 AM.
Individuals are allowed to book only two tickets per user-id in a day for Tatkal booking from 10 AM to 12 noon.

Quick Book option also remains disabled from 8 AM to 12 noon.

All ticketing agents have been barred from booking tickets from 8 AM to 8.30 AM for general bookings, from 10 AM to 10.30 AM and 11 AM to 11.30 AM for Tatkal booking in AC and non-AC classes respectively.

Booking is not allowed through e-wallet and cash cards from 8 AM to 12 noon.

There is only one booking in one user login session except for return/onward journey between 8 AM to 12 noon.

    Brainless people with brainless ideas. Railway management does not have any brainy people. Seems the recruit more SCST/backward people. In vacation, people travel more than 6 times. How can we book in that situation. We are paying and we need services. waste and useless decisions.

        I think user should be able to book ticket for himself n number of times and IRCTC can validate it with the help of PAN/ADHAAR/VOTING CARD/DRIVING LICENSE.lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;This will solve problem of many user and also there should be facility to add family member.

          what about a person travelling to and fro from city like Mysore and Bangalore day in and day out , cant i reserve my ticket more than 6 times

            Yes the agents make some quick bucks but it is nothing compared to the corruption indulged in by the various cartelsandcontractors and their protectors.can the Railways deliver where it really matters? Also they should bring in more automationandprune the no. of employees.This will be stoutly opposed by the various unions But the Railways should take the bull by its horns in national interest.

              This is nonsense! If you want to travel every week to and fro you are not allowed. You can book only 6 times a month. Who s are running this website and dept I don't know. No one is booking without paying then why such inconvenience? One should promote user friendly services so that business increases but this nonsense dept is doing exactly opposite.

                I travel 10 to 12 times in a month as my office is nearly 200 kms away from my home. There are times when I cancel my ticket to change Train, cl or date. Restricted to book e tickets only 6 times in a month is a BAD news for genuine pengers like me.

                  It is not good for us lt;br/gt;I went to delhi from allahabad lt;br/gt;I lost my 6 transection in two traveling .lt;br/gt;I reserved then cancel and then reserved for next date.

                    Well as usual Indian Railway is only for crooks and agents, If I want to travel on a vacation , Better look elsewhere, Why cant they simply refuse refunds and that will stop people making just keep it bookings and allow those who want to travel to book tickets, Also they must stop the current BLACKMARKETING scheme called TATKAL, If any normal shop keeper holds products and then sell them at higher price after creting shortage they will be arrested and punished for black marketing, Why railway is immmune to the law of land.

                        It is so foolish to think that no genuine user would book tickets for more than six times a month. when other family members have problems in online booking or if they are not computer-friendly etc we book ticket for our family members too. How can we say that it is not genuine? In case of any suion the ideny of such family members can very well be checked instead of denying the facility of booking online. If the tickets cannot booked in a month for travels in the next month due to expiry of the quota of six occasions, it amounts to denial of facility of advance booking. Please look into the complaint and Railway may please do correct this, ie., denial of online booking facility on such flimsy reasons.

                              The Indian Railways should focus on increasing the services, improve the infrastructure and not indulge in monopolistic and restrictive practices. All these touts and 10% folks should not be driving the decisions for the rest of the 90% citizens. All the governments till date have been shunning the core issue of providing facilities and improve the state of the affairs for the common man. Inspite of having a dedicated annual budget on par with the central budget, the railways has always been languishing. We do not have any world cl stations to name even after years . The platforms, the coaches and the services are still the old, dirty ones. And inspite of all these, Railways claims it makes losses. Please , cut your costs in terms of bloated inefficient man power and partner with private for becoming world cl.

                                I have old people in my family and I travel a lot too..... Everyone has to go their different routes and I have to book different tickets different times... this is a stupid move... come up with better solutions than this....
