Former Karnataka chief minister B. S. Yeddyurappa on Wednesday termed the Supreme Court’s order on the Cauvery issue as unfortunate and accused the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in the state of not taking up the issue properly.
Yeddyurappa told ANI, “We are not happy. We never expected such a verdict from the Supreme Court. This has happened because of the failure of the chief minister, the (state) government did not take up this issue properly. The Supreme Court verdict is most unfortunate.”
The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed Karnataka to release 6,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu from 21 to 27 September daily.
The apex court gave this verdict just a day after the Cauvery Supervisory Committee, headed by Ministry of Water Resources Secretary Shashi Shekhar ordered Karnataka to release 3,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu from 21 September to 30 September.
