A 30-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the repeated gangrape of his 15-year-old ‘wife’ for the past year. The minor, hailing from Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district, was rescued from Bhubaneswar station nine days ago.
She was rescued by an NGO while her ‘husband’ Judhistira Pradhan was allegedly trying to sell her to a pimp. The NGO lodged an FIR on the girl’s behalf Wednesday. Judhistira was arrested later in the day.
As per the FIR, Judhistira and his 10 friends kidnapped the girl from her village last year when she was on her way home after an examination. The FIR stated that she was sedated and taken to Chennai in an SUV. “When she regained consciousness, she found herself in a dark room. Then Judhisthira and his friends raped her. She was kept locked in the room and gangraped everyday. When she cried, her limbs were tied and she was beaten up,” Sita Barala, a member of the NGO Open Shelter which rescued her, wrote in the FIR.
The girl was allegedly raped by more than 10 persons daily and Judhistira allegedly collected at least Rs 5,000 from each of them, stated the FIR.
It said that two months later, Judhistira brought the minor to Paradip in a drugged state. At Paradip, she met a fellow villager and managed to return home. When her family got to know that she had travelled to Chennai with Judhistira, they persuaded her to marry him, said the FIR.
After the ‘marriage’, the girl was kidnapped again, taken to Bhubaneswar and gangraped for over 15 days, the FIR said. Later, Judhistira again took her to Chennai, where she was assaulted.
Last month, Judhistira brought her back to Bhubaneswar to sell her off, but she was rescued from the station. The girl has been shifted to a child protection home in Bhubaneswar.
