Elaborate security arrangements for PM Narendra Modi’s rally in Himachal Pradesh

Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the maiden visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday. Modi, who will be visiting the poll-bound hilly state for the first time after assuming power, is scheduled to attend two rallies at Mandi and Nahan. The state Assembly elections are slated for 2017.

He will dedicate three hydropower projects, namely 800 MW Koldam project executed by National Thermal Power Corporation, 530 MW Parvati Stage II project of National Hydropower Corporation and 412 MW Rampur hydropower project of Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam, to the people.

Superintendent of Police, Mandi, Prem Kumar Thakur said the Paddal ground, the venue of the rally here has been fortified. “The entire area has been divided into 13 sectors and each sector would be monitored by gazetted officers of the police department,” he said.

Police officers have been asked to ensure proper traffic management and strict vigil is being maintained, he said. An SPG team headed by IG rank officer is camping here and coordinating the security arrangements with the district administration and police, Thakur said.

Inspector General of Police, Central Range, Mandi, Ajay Kumar Yadav said necessary directions have been issued to manage the crowd during the public meeting and also keep a constant vigil on miscreants.

The Prime Minister will be accompanied by Union Power minister Piyush Goel.

The BJP has put in major efforts to make the rally a success with top leaders including, Union Health Minister J P Nadda, former chief ministers Shanta Kumar and P K Dhumal, state BJP chief Satpal Singh Satti, BJYM president Anurag Thakur, among others expected to attend the programme.
