The full Election Commission of India (ECI) team comprising the Chief Election Commissioner and two election commissioners will be in Chandigarh over the next two days to review preparations for the forthcoming Punjab assembly elections.
As per the schedule of the visit, prepared by the state election commission, CEC Dr Naseem Zaidi and the his team of AK Joti and OP Rawat will arrive on Sunday afternoon and will meet with representatives of the national and state political parties. Chief Electoral Officer V K Singh and nodal police officers deputed for the elections will brief them of their preparedness.

On October 24, the team will meet with editors of newspapers and TV channels to brief them of the electoral process and to enlist their help in ensuring a free and fair polling. The team will also meet with 22 Deputy Commissioners, five Divisional Commissioners, 27 Senior Superintendents of Police, Seven DIGs and four IGs of Police. This will be followed by a meeting with all nodal officers of he state election commission, police nodal officer, nodal officer of the Narcotics Control Bureau, nodal officer of the state narcotics control bureau, income tax and excise and taxation.
The team will also get a presentation by the District Electoral Officer Ludhiana on a mobile application developed for returning officers. On October 25 the EC team will meet the Punjab Chief Secretary, Sarvesh Kaushal, Additional Chief Secretary Home, Additonal Chief Secretary Finance and additional Chief Secretary Excise apart from the Director General of Police. The final event would be a press conference before the team leaves for New Delhi.
