Describing the exercise of demonetisation as a “huge scam”, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Monday demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe to investigate all the details which led the Centre to invalidate high-value currency notes three weeks ago. The former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of taking the decision without consulting anybody.
“Rahul Gandhi was absolutely right. It is huge scam. We demand JPC to go into the details in the process of coming to the decision of demonetisation,” Digvijaya said in a series of tweets. “We need to know who is responsible for this decision. If BJP believes in transparency they should put all facts in public domain. They won’t
“Why ? Because PM took this decision himself without consulting anyone except few of his close advisors who have no clue of Indian Economy.”
With the opposition stepping up their attack on the ruling dispensation over the raging issue, both houses of Parliament on Monday witnessed disruptions for the eighth straight day.
Meanwhile, normal life was hit in some parts of the country as Congress observed ‘Jan Akrosh Diwas’ to protest against the manner in which demonetisation move was implemented, which left many in the lurch and utter state of confusion. While the left parties called a 12-hour bandh in Kerala and Tripura, Congress and the Trinamool Congress only held protests.
