BSP chief Mayawati on Sunday accused the BJP of having an anti-Dalit mentality as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party chief Amit Shah have been silent on “indecorous” remarks by party leaders.

The former UP CM said there is a difference in “what the Modi government preaches and practises” and attacked “communal forces” for demolishing the Babri Masjid on this day in 1992.

“There is a marked difference in what the Modi government practises and preaches,” she said in a statement issued on Ambedkar’s death anniversary. “This government is the first government at the Centre where ministers seem to be out of control and making irresponsible and indecorous remarks against ignored Dalits and Muslims.”

On one hand, Parliament is discussing commitment towards the Constitution to mark Ambedkar’s 125th birth anniversary and on the other, ministers, Governors and other leaders of the Modi government are insulting Dalits and backward communities, she said.

The BSP, which did not win a single seat in 2014 Lok Sabha polls, has began an agitation in the Rajya Sabha against Union Minister V K Singh for his alleged dog analogy while referring to the killing of two Dalit toddlers in Sunped, Haryana. “The latest remarks of Singh have crossed all limits of decency. It is sad that no head of any Constitutional body took notice and initiated action. We were forced to boycott him in the Rajya Sabha,” she said.
