In an apparent case of road rage, a local BJP worker’s sons were allegedly beaten up by the son of a East Delhi-based businessman, who also produced a Bollywood film, in East Delhi’s Anand Vihar area on late Sunday night. Preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were beaten up after they were asked to move their car.
The accused purportedly entered into a heated argument with the victims when they questioned him about his incessant honking. The argument turned violent, when the accused called his associates and attacked the victims with cricket bats and sticks. Allegedly they also smashed the windows and front and rear windscreen of the victims’ Audi A6 car. A case has been registered at Anand Vihar police station and police has arrested one of the accused’s associates, while hunt is on to nab the remaining persons.
According to police, the incident occurred in Ram Vihar area when the victims, identified as Anuj and Tarun Tyagi, were returning home, and had to drop their friend on the way. Anuj is a former Delhi cricketer and has represented the state in junior age groups.
“They were dropping their friend when suddenly when one of the accused, identified as Sunny, started honking. He later entered into argument with them and called his associates, including his elder brother Abhishek Anand, who has played a lead role in a Bollywood flick, produced by their father,” a senior police officer said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that they attacked the victims with bats, sticks, street flower pots and also smashed their car. “After committing the crime, the accused managed to escape from the spot. The victims then informed the police after making a call to PCR and the victims were taken to hospital where they got stitches on their head,” the officer added.
“On the basis of Tarun’s complaint, a case was registered under Sections 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 323 (causing hurt), 427 (causing damage to property) and 34 of the IPC at Anand Vihar police station. After registering the case, police started their investigation and arrested Sunny from his residence. Hunt is on for others,” the officer said.
