A Delhi Police constable Sanjay Prasad on Thursday committed suicide by jumping onto the tracks of the Delhi Metro at Patel Chowk metro station. The incident took place earlier this afternoon, and it was not immediately known what triggered Prasad to commit suicide. An investigation in the suicide case is underway. Prasad was posted with the DCP East office.

The metro network has seen several suicide attempts since its launch, an issue security forces are yet to address given the rising footfall in the transport network. The security across the metro network in the national capital is managed by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The Delhi Metro has repeatedly appealed to passengers to help curtail suicides. In a message issued, the DMRC had said: “All passengers are requested to be alert at the platform when metro trains are approaching and stop any fellow passenger who attempts to cross the yellow line before the train comes to a complete halt.”

This is a developing story, more details are awaited.
