A 26-year-old Dalit man died in police custody under suspicious circumstances in Kanpur following which twelve police personnel have been suspended.

Kamal Valmiki, a resident of Shiv Katra village, was found dead at Ahirwan police station this afternoon after he was picked up along with another man, Raju Mistri, yesterday in a case of loot. Police called the family of Mistri to identify the body, which was later claimed by Kamal’s family.

The family members of the deceased filed an FIR against the station in charge and other police personnel for beating Kamal to death. However, police claimed he had committed suicide and sent the body for postmortem.

“Twelve police personnel, including the station in charge Yogendra Singh, have been suspended and strict action will be taken against them if found guilty,” SSP, Mathura, Shalabh Mathur said

The members of Valmiki community blocked the Kanpur-Lucknow highway and threw stones at the police station following which senior police officials reached there to control the situation. Meanwhile, Raju Mistri has been reported missing.

Recently, four Dalit youths were beaten up by cow vigilantes at Mota Samadhiyala village in Una taluka of Gir-Somnath district of Gujarat, sparking widespread protest across the country.

To improve the lots of Dalits and Tribals free education/accommodation should be provided to those who can prove themselves worthy of it. In education as well as in job they should, however, be competing with the rest.lt;br/gt;Apart from that they should be given vocational training in different subjects so they can help themselves. No point giving quota education to make a scholar out of someone who is not worthy then have an albatross sit around the neck of the rest of the potion.

I am sick of underlining "Dalit" the plan of looters party (congies) is clear divide the nation by means of caste, relegian and rule. Old trick adopted from english d.o.gs. surprisingly IE has so much share in it! May be partners in that loot.

Killling of a dalit by SP government's police, mostly Yadavs, is no problem with pseudo-seculars, award wapsi thugs and presutes. UP govt, CM or Mulayam will not be asked to make statements and take blame. But if some cow-vigalantees who also happen to be ex-congressi supporters beat up some dalits to create political problems for BJP on behalf of congress-AAP g00ns, then it is teh biggest news, intolerance and only known dalit atrocity and BJP/Modi are responsible for it. Rahul, Kejri, Yechuri will visit such place and presutes do debate/programs non stop for weeks. Thsi is reality of paseudo-secular-presute gangs concern for dalits. You will never see those fellows like Praskash Ambedkar or Kancha Shephard reasoning how Hindutva groups are responsible for all dalit-atrocities.

The number of suspensions will depend on the caste now?
