The CPI (M) would field two leaders, who are allegedly accused in a political murder case, in the upcoming elections to the local bodies.

Karai Rajan and Karai Chandrasekharan would contest for Kannur district panchayat and Thalassery municipality respectively. They are the accused in the murder of Fazal, an activist of right wing Muslim outfit called Popular Front of India. The CBI, which probed the case, had found that the CPI (M) had hired goons to kill Fazal, after he left the party to join the PFI.

While granting bail to the accused, the high court had put a rider preventing them from entering Kannur district. On Friday, the high court allowed them to enter into Kannur district to facilitate them to file nominations.
