A man who projected himself as an ‘AAP leader’ was arrested Tuesday from a bus stand in Sangrur for allegedly attempting to rape a minor. The accused identified as Hardeep Singh, a resident of Sangrur’s Lehal Kalan village, projected himself as AAP in-charge in the village and was booked by the Moonak police two days ago for allegedly trying to rape a minor at his photo studio.

AAP’s Sangrur convenor Jassi Sekhon however denied that Hardeep was an AAP leader. “The man in question was just a supporter of AAP and he was not an office bearer. So party has nothing to do with him in this case,” he said.

When shown the pictures of the accused with Arvind Kejriwal over lunch during his Sangrur visit in February, Sekhon said, “When Kejriwal had visited Sangrur, he may have got his pictures clicked with him like many others. So it does not mean that he is an officebearer of the party.”
