A convict serving a jail term in a murder case allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in Mathura jail here following which a magisterial probe has been ordered. Braj Nandan, a resident of Vrindavan, was found hanging from an overhead water tank by his towel last evening. Nandan had been sentenced to life imprisonment for killing one Tej Singh in Vrindaban on May 17, 1987.
He apparently took the extreme step after his parole plea was rejected by the Supreme Court. “When his parole plea was rejected by the High Court, an attempt was made by the family to get relief from the Apex court, however, there also his parole application was rejected,” Jail Superintendent P D Salonia said.
“A magisterial probe would be conducted on the death of the undertrial who committed suicide,” District Magistrate Nitin Bansal said.
SP City Alok Priyadarshi said the post-mortem was conducted by a team of three doctors.
