Amid opposition parties’ calls for countrywide protests against demonetisation on November 28, the Congress has decided to go the extra mile and hold block-level protests across the poll-bound state on November 25 and 26. While grassroot-level units have been asked to organise the two-day protests, senior leaders have been asked to “gherao” the regional office of the RBI in Kanpur on November 25, targeting not just the Centre but also RBI for “lack of planning”.
There are around 820 blocks in the state, and each district unit has been asked to organise an agitation with slogans against the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes. These protests will then be followed by district units holding a 1 km march and a dharna at all district headquarters on November 28, which will be marked as ‘Jan Akrosh Diwas’ by opposition parties across the country.
