Raising the issue of the alleged ‘power loot scam’ in Punjab by the state government Congress chief spokesperson Sunil Jakhar Tuesday sought answers from Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal as to why the government has to Rs 3,000 crore annually to private power plants even without purchasing a single unit.
Speaking to the media in Jalandhar, Jakhar threatened that if the the Congress comes to power, it will ask the CBI as well as the Comptroller of Auditor General (CAG) to conduct a probe on the matter.
The Congress leader said that Sukhbir should either answer the question in the Vidhan Sabha or sit for an open ‘debate’ with him anywhere in state.
Jakhar further claimed that the state government in a reply to his question in the Vidhan Sabha earlier had given him in written that it has paid Rs 3,112 and 1,562 crores against the purchase of 7,055 mn unit and 3,291 million units from Rajpura and Talwandi Sabo plants respectively between January 2015 to January 31, 2016. He also stated that when the plants were shut this year the government, which already has surplus power from its own plants as well from the share it gets from the national grid, yet it pays Rs 3,000 crores to these plants without purchasing any units from them.
