Reacting to Modi’s remarks made during a speech in Bathinda on Friday, party spokesperson Manish Tewari said, “Modi asking people to go for internet banking when most of them did not have even bank accounts was akin to the French Queen Marie asking the poor to eat cake when she was told they did not have bread to eat.

He asserted that the Prime Minister was far removed from the grass-roots realities of India.

He suggested to Modi that he should first try to find out how many Indians were having bank accounts, had access to the banks and the internet, before asking them to go for internet banking.

“Since the Prime Minister spends most of his time in the virtual world with his Twitter handle, he seems to be oblivious of the real world which is queueing up outside the banks waiting for hours to get their own money,” he observed, while urging the Prime Minister to come out of the virtual world into the real world.
