The Congress and the BJP Saturday sought a vigilance probe into the appointments scam in the Industries Department, in which Minister E P Jayarajan is alleged to have posted his close relatives as senior functionaries in government undertakings.

Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala and BJP state secretary K Surendran petitioned that a vigilance case be registered against Jayarajan, who allegedly violated the oath of office and indulged in nepotism.

CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the party would look into the controversy. “If any lapse is found in the appointments, the government would take corrective steps,” he said. ENS
