Congress has blamed the state BJP government of being hypocritical when it came to swadeshi as the government itself used Chinese goods in government projects and was also creating a Chinese manufacturing hub at Sanand. Reacting to Chief Minister Vijay Rupani appealing people to adopt swadeshi at a function of the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) on Tuesday, Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi said that it was highly absurd for CM to talk about Swadeshi when the Sardar Patel statue being built at Narmada dam at Kevadia Colony was using materials built in China.
“When Gujarati businessmen can stop export of vegetables to Pakistan involved in terror activities in India, why can’t BJP government bring a ban on Chinese goods in the state?”, questioned Doshi, adding that “instead of just making statements about swadeshi, the government should take concrete steps in import and sale of Chinese goods in the state”.
Pointing out that the state government was in the process of setting up an exclusive manufacturing hub for Chinese companies at Sanand, he said what right did the government and CM had to talk about swadeshi. “While Prime Minister Narendra Modi uses the carpet manufactured in China for yoga, Gujarat CM gives us lesson in swadeshi”, remarked Doshi, adding “it is really funny”.
“Chinese government is supporting Pakistan on the issue of Masood Azhar, sending terrorists in India. And yet our government is silent about China. Where is BJP’s nationalism and patriotism?”, asked Doshi.
“More than 55,000 small scale industries had closed in Gujarat due to flooding of Chinese goods. Morbi’s clock industry and ceramic industries are suffering badly due to Chinese goods being dumped in the country”, said former state party Modhwadia adding that the government needed to prepare a policy to check the import of Chinese goods in the country with a view to promoting the growth of local industries.
