Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur woke up to a tense day on the morning after Diwali, as a small tiffin box suspected to be a bomb was found placed atop a red maoist banner in the middle of the town’s Collectorate Road.

Senior officials said some letters purported to be correspondence between Maoist cadre were also found strewn around the tiffin. Following a detailed investigation, the police dismissed it as a case of mischief rather than a message by the Maoists. Narayanpur SP Abhishek Meena said that preliminary probe did not suggest that this was the work of Maoists, but of those wanting to create “mischief”. However, police said a case had been registered and probe was on.
