The Bombay High Court on Tuesday permitted former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, arrested for alleged money-laundering, to withdraw his petition challenging provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) under which he has been booked.
Bhujbal has also sought liberty to file a fresh habeas corpus petition against his detention.
A bench of Justice R V More and Justice Shalini Phansalkar-Joshi permitted Bhujbal to do so and said the new petition could be mentioned before the court on November 18. Bhujbal’s lawyer Vikram Chaudhary informed the court that they wished to withdraw the petition and file a fresh plea claiming illegal detention of Bhujbal by investigating agencies.
Bhujbal was arrested by the ED on March 14.
