Central government should arrest pollution, not Rahul Gandhi: Delhi Congress

Reprimanding the Centre and the state government for not initiating proper measures to mitigate the deteriorating air quality of the national capital, Delhi Congress chief spokesperson Sharmishtha Mukherjee on Friday said that the central government should arrest pollution instead of Rahul Gandhi. “The Central government instead of arresting Rahul Gandhi should be concerned with arresting pollution,” said Mukherjee, referring to the earlier detention of the Congress vice president in the One Rank One Pension (OROP) case.

“The Delhi pollution situation is an emergency situation. There is international norm that whenever Air Quality Index reached 300 for two consecutive days, there should be an immediate red alert announced. But, here in this week we have seen that it has crossed 300 for more than four days. At some places, it touched 1500. But, yet the government is not doing anything. Both the central government and the state government in their usual pattern are busy playing blame games,” she said.

Mukherjee was of the opinion that the people of Delhi are almost like under a death sentence, therefore the situation entails emergency measures. While speaking about the measures she said schools and colleges should be closed, the public transport system should be improved and augmented, construction activities stopped and proper sprinkling done to curb down the dust pollution.

“But the Delhi government and the central government do not have any road map and they just keep on promising that there will be an action plan. Why NGT should take a suo motu action? Isn’t the Delhi government aware of the fact that every year in Delhi there is this kind of problem?” she further enquired. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Friday will hear a case related to the deteriorating quality of air in Delhi which has been designated as being in the “severe” category post Diwali.

Taking suo motu cognisance of the matter, the tribunal on Thursday had directed Delhi Chief Secretary K.K. Sharma to hold a meeting urgently with all the concerned authorities. The chief secretary was told to file a status report by today.

NGT’s directive came while hearing a case related to the rising menace of Chikungunya and Dengue. During the hearing the Delhi government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had argued that the presence of mosquitoes declined drastically after Diwali.

“Have you done anything to prevent children from going to school, did you give advisory to public. The people have the right to breathe fresh air,” the tribunal observed while reprimanding the Delhi Government over its lacklustre response towards tackling air pollution. For the past three days, Delhiites have been inhaling copious amounts of particulate matter (PM) – both 2.5 micrometers and 10 micrometers – composed of dust, dirt, smoke, chemicals, etc., a deadly combination which enters the blood stream through one’s lungs and causes cancer.

As per System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), levels of Particulate Matter (PM) 10 levels reached a record 500 mark on Wednesday. The city witnessed low visibility and smog throughout Wednesday evening and night. The reasons for this are a drop in wind speed and rise in humidity in the atmosphere. Such severe pollution levels can cause breathing problems, lung and heart diseases among many other ailments.

DELHI and CENTRAL GOVT were under the Congress Party rule.lt;br/gt;It seems RAHU and the DELHI CONGRESS PARTY chief were sleeping during that period and just awaken now and angry on POLLUTION and OROP issues which were to be solved by the then ruling CONGRESS GOVT themselves.lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;Present CM of DELHI KEJRI is an international hero with claims on reducing DELHI POLLUTION issue. But the Congress Party Chief seems to have NO COMPLAINS against AAP GOVT.lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;The Congress Party as well as AAP are facing their party's desperate political visions. So RAHU and KEJRI with their lobbies are getting more and more mad day by day.

Pollution in Delhi/Price rise/Suicide of Farmers/OROP etc. According to Opposition Parties All these problems have been created by the polcies of the NDA Government. Opposition parties are afraid of BJP and instead of behaving in a neutral manner in the interest of the Country as a w they continue to use abusive language to their own elected Government and PM in particular. The problems are the result of the past policies and now only exploding. lt;br/gt;The Politicians do not even spare Police Force who try their best to maintain discipline during agitations and stop the situation taking ugly turn. The Politicians should remember if they can use abusive language to Police Force who protects them risking their own life, may refuse to guard them. lt;br/gt;The Nation is under threat from ENEMY-POLITICIANS ARE EXPECTED TO COOPERATE WITH THE GOVERNMENT AND STOP PINPRICKING ALL THE TIMES.

QUOTE FROM: Bhagat Singh Koshyari, former Uttarakhand chief minister. The very definition of the Orop was devised by a parliamentary committee that was headed by him in 2011. And what does he say about the ongoing agitation? “Maybe some in the agitation are thinking just because the government is listening to them, they should squeeze out as much as possible. Greed may be playing a part. I can’t rule out that there may be political motivations to this issue as well.” He wonders how one did not see any protests against a party that ruled for six decades almost but the protesters upped the ante when the Modi government was barely a year old. OPPOSITION PARTIES TO NOTE.

BJP snatched GST from Congress. Neither BJP did urge Congress to implement OROP when it was in opposition for 30 years. Now can BJP take over Kejriwal to arrest smoke, pollution, etc. AND behave like brave veterans of out mother country? Can they arrest pollution? Did not BJP take over CONGRESS by implementing GST and OROP. Now the challenge lies on pollution. Are they looking helpless or have no idea to arrest pollution. No takers or brave-heart in BJP I hope

I do not understand what the heck Mr Kejriwal is doing. He runs after the funerals and let people die in his state.lt;br/gt;Let him first focus on his fiduciary responsibilities as a state chief.lt;br/gt;People would definitely support him in his fight against center for genuine issues like pollution. lt;br/gt;Rather, he just kill time doing the same cheap politics. He even went to the extent of endorsing Mr Lalllu Yadav for Bihar elections.
