Caste tension over ‘Ambedkar effigy’ in Bhopal

Demanding action against the accused, several lower caste villagers staged a protest.

Thirty upper caste villagers from Charkha village were booked by the Gwalior police for sedition and atrocities against Scheduled Castes following reports that they planned to burn an effigy of Dr B R Ambedkar in Bhitarwar town, about 75 km from the district headquarters.

Demanding action against the accused, several lower caste villagers staged a protest. The protest ended only after an FIR was filed under relevant sections. The accused rejected the allegations.
